Twenty three (23) of Kiama’s Little Athletes made the long journey to Westend Oval, Griffith for the Region 4 Championships on the weekend of February 2nd and 3rd. Region 4 is made up of four (4) Zones with Centres from Eastern Riverina, Mid South Coast, South Coast Highlands and Western Riverina. Across the four (4) Zones there are thirty one (32) individual Little Athletics Centres.
The Kiama Centre had nine (9) athletes secure first and second places automatically qualifying them for the State Track and Field Championships at Sydney Olympic Park from March 16 to 17.
The highlight of the weekend was the performance of Under 17 athlete, Georgia Richards, who claimed gold in the 800m and 1500m, silver in the 300m Hurdles and Bronze in the 400m and Triple Jump. Gold medal performances were also recorded by Matt Cordell (Under 17 Boys High Jump), Elias Oldfield (Under 12 Boys 400m), Eliza Schweitzer (Under 14 Girls 80m Hurdles) and Amelia Weatherlake (Under 12 Girls 60m Hurdles).
State qualifiers, based upon performance, have now been identified.
