Twenty four (24) of Kiama’s Little Athletes made the short journey to Myimbarr Community Park, Flinders, for the Region 4 Championships on the weekend of February 1st and 2nd. Region 4 is made up of four (4) Zones with Centres from Eastern Riverina, Mid South Coast, South Coast Highlands and Western Riverina. Across the four (4) Zones there are thirty one (31) individual Little Athletics Centres.
The Kiama Centre had twelve (12) athletes secure first and second places automatically qualifying them for the State Track and Field Championships at Sydney Olympic Park from March 14 to 15.
The highlight of the weekend was the performance of Under 11 athlete, Maiya Hewitt, who claimed gold in the 400m, Long Jump and Triple Jump, and silver in the 200m. Gold medal performances were also recorded by Matt Cordell (Under 17 Boys High Jump), Cohen Deegan (Under 15 Boys 3000m), Zoe Haylen (Under 13 Girls 80m/h), Elias Oldfield (Under 13 Boys 100m) and Eliza Schweitzer (Under 15 Girls 90m Hurdles).
