Presentation – Season’s Results

Kiama Little Athletics’ 2019-2020 season was scheduled to conclude on Sunday, April 5 with the annual Presentation at Kiama Leisure Centre. Unfortunately, the current environment left us with no choice but to postpone our Presentation.

This season will be remembered as one of the most challenging in the history of Little Athletics. Many Centres were directly affected by bushfires and the negative impact on air quality prevented numerous meets and carnivals from being held. Hot weather and flooding rain presented further complications towards the latter part of the season and the threat of COVID-19 has recently forced the unprecedented cancellation or postponement of sporting events across the planet.

We could certainly do with some good news at the moment so, rather than wait until later in the year to announce the season’s results, the Committee believed it would be beneficial to publish the details on the day the Presentation was originally scheduled.

Let’s formally recognise our athletes’ achievements!

The Centre’s highest accolade is the Dean Blair Memorial Trophy which is presented to the athlete who attains the highest level of improvement throughout the season.

This year’s winner was Under 11 athlete Maiya Hewitt.  In second place was Isabella Carswell (Under 11) and in third place was Isabelle Hodgson (Under 13).

Dean Blair was a member of Kiama Little Athletics Centre in the 1980 season, joining at the age of nine.  In just three months Dean broke 15 records, a testimony to his natural ability.  Tragically Dean died in December 1980 as a result of a playground accident at school.  The perpetual trophy was struck in Dean’s memory.

Elias Oldfield (Under 13) received the Don Hodgekiss Award for best performance at Zone, Region and State.

Ella Cleal-Cook (Under 18) and Amelia Weatherlake (Under 13) were declared joint winners of the Coaches Most Improved Award.

The season’s full results are available here.

We hope you enjoyed the season and thank you for being a part of the wonderful Kiama Little Athletics family.

Stay healthy and safe.
